Detail of top of the hat

The hat in the photos is the medium sized hat made in Wellington Fibres 2-ply Worsted Spun, variegated purple colour.

The pattern is writen for three sizes of hats, and is the same for all sizes of the hat. Changing the yarn, needle size and gauge used will create the different sizes.

The headband is begun with a provisional cast-on and is knitted flat. It is then joined together by either using 3-needle bind off or grating the ends together.

Stitches are picked up around one edge of the headband, and an inner band of Twisted Stitch Ribbing is created.

Once the ribbing is worked to the inner width of the headband the stitches are then pulled through the other edge of the headband, and are ready to be worked for the top of the hat. The top of the hat is worked in the Eye of Partridge pattern, incorporating decreases for shaping into the pattern.
