These socks are worked from the toe up. It uses a light circular cast-on to start. The gusset is created along the base of the foot. The heel is turned using a combination of a short-row heel triangle and a heel flap worked in the Eye of Partridge pattern.

This pattern originally appeared on Knitty.com in it’s Fall 2007 issue.

Yarn Suggestions
I recommend using Fingering to Sport weight yarns that have alpaca or mohair in them to add extra strength and warmth to the socks. Also, a more tightly spun yarn will help make these socks last.

The following yarns have been tested with good results.
Wellington Fibres – 3 ply fingering weight
60% Wool, 40% Mohair
95 g (3.35 oz), 229 m (250 yd) – 2 skeins.

Berroco – Ultra Alpaca Fine
50% Wool, 30% Nylon, 20% Alpaca
100 g (3.53 oz), 396 m (433 yd) – 1 skein.
